What else to say? I think I don't need any lengthy introduction about both of these. I don't know about any of these 'proofs' linking McDonald's to the Zionist Regime in Israel, but all I know is this: they are one of the major funds contributing to Jewish United Fund (JUF).
What the hell is JUF? Well, it is a fundraising body (obviously) and one of the largest philanthropy agencies in the world. JUF provides critical resources that bring food, refuge, health care, education and emergency assistance to 300,000 Chicagoans (people from Chicago, IL) of all faiths and 2 million Jews in Israel and around the world, funding a network of nearly 70 agencies and programs (taken from Wikipedia). They involved in the mass migration of Jewish to Israel, particularly in the 80s and 90s. I don't know about weapons' supply but I do know they are a major enthusiast for Israel (and all of their causes, I guess...).
No, I'm not going to talk about "McD is bad, they support Israel", "boycott McD and all Israelis' products", etc, etc... I'm simply going to review based on recent events, so if you are looking for a post that conveys hatred towards Israelis, you've come to a wrong place. Hatred is not my thing. Well, I do hate humans, but because we are mainly stupid nowadays, nothing to do with race/religion/politics/etc.
Recent event shows a major Israeli forces (IDF) operation in Gaza. I'm not surprised this time, because IDF have always been a dick, I do know that, since the days of Ariel Sharon (the PM before Netanyahu). I'm quite surprised by the reaction from the world, I don't know...maybe because the power of the Internet nowadays. And Twitter. And images. Mainstream medias do not hesitate to post graphic images from the war to their audience, something we have not seen before in any major news network. The power of images knock the people at the back of their head and make them realize something that have been happening since decades ago.
Let's not talk about this war. I can talk about this Israeli-Palestinian war in a very, very lengthy post. I can talk about their history, who is and was involved (the big players), etc. You can read that in Wikipedia, for God's sake.
I want to talk about economics. I want to talk about finance. Basic economics and finance. Because one of the trends that is circling in the social media right now is about McDonald's stock price which has been dropped, day by day. It fascinates me to see some of the 'religious' people view this as "success for Islam for boycotting Israelis' products and the decline of Israel", "we made it! we shall continue boycotting Israelis' products until no one is willing to fund Israel". Yeah, really funny guys. Do you guys know what you guys sound like?
Yes, it's true. McDonald's stock price has been dropping this week. Try google NYSE:MCD and you'll know what I'm talking about. Nehh, don't google it. I'll show you:
Above figure shows McDonald's stock price in 5-days span. The lowest price occurred yesterday when they dropped from between USD95.00 and USD96.00 to 7-cents shy from USD95.00 per share. And it continues to recover slowly on today. Market price dropped by 0.96% today.
Yes, McD's stock price dropped. And so with other companies, PLCs, LLCs and banks. Market price rise and fall, like waves. I remember something I learned in Principal Economics back in the college. There are several factors that can affect stock price:
- Company's news and performance (inside information and inside trading. That shit is illegal yo).
- Inflation.
- Economy.
- Supply & demand.
- Seasonal factors (such as winter, summer, fall, typhoon, etc.).
- Politics (new laws, abolishing laws, changes in policies).
- World news.
- Demography.
Given the current news and issues, well I can say it is pretty normal for them to drop in market price. In fact, this is not the worst. They faced a more worst situation back in 2003. Remember Super Size Me? That documentary about a guy who ate a lot of McDonald's food and turned out to be very unhealthy? Yes, that documentary was the sole cause for their trouble. Their share price back then was traded at USD12.82 per share. Yes, it was 12-dollar per share. Even Hup Seng (Biskut Cap Ping Pong a.k.a Biskut Mayat manufacturer) market price was better than them back then. And they made it to USD100 per share in 9 years. Let me remind you that people who boycotted McD at that time do it because their health was at stake. Surprisingly, up until now McD has some serious issues about their food qualities. Even Jamie Oliver does not encourage us to eat McD food. Not just encourage, he forbids us to eat those kind of food. It was health issues who nearly brought them down back then. USD12 per share.
Nowadays, the issue is mainly related to humanity. We came up with posters 'Boycott Israel!', 'Boycott McD, Intel and Johnson & Johnson's for supporting Israel!' and others to bring them down, hoping that all these companies will go bankrupt and no one will fund Israel. That is the hope. That's good, hope keeps a man alive. See the above market price? Do y'all think y'all gonna bring these companies down if the current price is +-USD95 per share? And are recovering?
All I want to say is, it is a normal thing for companies to rise and fall in stock exchange, at least they do not go bankrupt like Lehmann Bros. It's just another normal cycle in stock exchange. Yes, it gives their Chief ______ Officers (CEO, COO, CTO, etc) uneasy, sleepless nights but with the fall of market price by 0.96%, I don't think they will go bankrupt. Unless there is a solid proof linking McD to killing of innocent children in Gaza (for example, the CEO shoots a Palestinian kid in his/her head, etc.). I'm not trying to demotivate y'all in this 'Boycott Israel' campaign, but...
For God's sake, don't make me laugh. We can do better than this.
